“ Insanely good bread!! Everything we tried blew our minds: the rosemary focaccia, the cranberry pecan roll, the seeded fougasse, and the granola bar (vegan). Cannot wait to come back here and try everything else. ”
“ Standard Baking is a treasure, to be savored. Let's talk about their bread first. It is top notch and has a lot of variety. I personally love the sourdough and get it every time. The pastries are magical and taste as good as they look. I am a huge fan. The varieties are great too--you can have a different one each day of the week, and still not try them all at once. Service is outstanding and worth mentioning. It is so refreshing! ”
“ An awesome artisan bakery snuggled in between some buildings near the eastern downtown waterfront of Portland. The team inside was super friendly and took time to explain many of the different items they offer as we made our selection. Tried the baguette, olive bread, Asiago fogasse, morning buns, berry brickle. There was an expansive menu of different breads and desserts. The place is very small inside with barely enough room for a dozen people to stand shoulder to shoulder waiting for their baked delicacies. There is some sort of shelf outside the building to pick up web orders that you seem to be able to place in advance Highly recommend a stop here. We bought a bunch of stuff and ate it over the next couple days - love it! ”
“ I've been here 4 or 5 times now, and am officially a Standard Baking convert! The bakery itself is very warehouse chic but quite small. There isn't seating inside, though there is a semi-covered terrace outside with picnic tables if the weather permits. Oftentimes, there will be a line out the door, but the folks that run this place are efficient and the line moves pretty quickly. I've tried a bunch of things from here -- the asiago cheese bread, chocolate cookie, lemon tart, brownie -- but the financier is what keeps me coming back. It is just SO good, chewy on the inside but crisp and caramelized on the edges, with a nutty, chocolate-y luxuriousness. When I brought my mom here during her visit, she loved the financier so much that we ended up coming back three times in three days to order more. Pro tip: if you know what you want to order, you can pre-order for next-day pick up on the website. This'll save you from having to stand in line: you can head straight to the pick-up tent and they'll bring it right out to you! ”
“ Standard Baking is hands down one of my favorite stops in the Old Port! Their baguettes are perfection! Crispy on the outside, airy and soft inside. And don't get me started on their personal-sized pizzas! Those are a dream, but fair warning... They sell out fast, so plan to get there early if you want to snag one. This bakery holds a special place in my heart. No trip to Maine feels complete without stopping here. When I'm far away, I find myself dreaming of their fresh, daily baked breads and the huge variety they offer. It's like a little slice of heaven baked fresh every day. Make sure you top it off with some Stonewall Kitchen wild Maine blueberry jam! The location is great, with easy parking nearby, which makes the trip even smoother. Just be ready for some lines during the day. It's a popular spot for good reason! The wait is always worth it though. Always nice people inside the tiny little space. If they ever opened a location on the West Coast, I'd be their first customer. Until then, I'll keep coming back every chance I get. Standard Baking is simply the best! ”
“ I got the morning bun from here which was super Duper good and I got a cup of coffee. Both were super Duper good there was a super long line on a Saturday morning! The place was very packed inside with a lot of different big goods as well. I highly recommend coming here.! ”
“ The best morning bun I've ever had! The walnuts on top really made it. We were here on a Saturday morning and the line was out the door which is always a good sign. The line moved quickly and once you got into the bakery the smells were incredible. The staff was very friendly and efficient. They had a great display of their baked goods, desserts, and bread. Everything was so fresh. They also had a coffee and tea station. Super cute inside! They had an awesome outdoor seating area. Highly recommend! ”
“ Standard Baking is, for me, one of the best bakeries in Portland. I initially visited back in 2021 during my first proper trip to Portland, and really wanted to check it out again. We weren't staying too far from here, so one morning we decided to stop by and pick up some bakes before heading out on the day's adventures. Standard Baking is owned by a company that also runs several other eateries in Portland - Fore Street, Street and Co., and Scales. Standard is actually located on the lower level of the Fore Street restaurant that faces Commercial Street. When I first visited in 2021 we were not allowed inside due to COVID protocols, however the business was fully open now. Even still, it's a small space and the line usually extends out to the large parking lot in the foreground of the entrance. Their selection is vast - there are limited protein options here, but they make up for it with several sweet and (some) savory bakes. During this recent trip we decided to pick up several items: frangipane, breakfast bun with walnuts, prosciutto and asiago croissant, blueberry oat scone, orange cream spelt scone, and a raspberry galette. Everything was delicious - the biggest standouts for me were the breakfast bun and the frangipane. The former was filled with cinnamon and the walnut topping was almost like candy mmm. The latter was the perfect consistency and topped with plum to really take it to another level. Service was fast and friendly - I left with a t-shirt which shows you how much I love this spot. Overall, definitely make it your intention to visit if you're in the Portland area - Standard is not to be missed. ”
